Spain’s Sergio Lobera is the frontrunner to become East Bengal’s new coach.
The club has decided to show the door to Stephen Constantine under whom they finished ninth in the recently-concluded ISL IX.
“Yes, we have zeroed in on Sergio Lobera. There are some formalities to be completed. If everything goes accordingly, he will be our new coach,” a source in Emami, East Bengal’s investor, said on Tuesday.
“As of now he has the best credentials to be our coach,” a senior club official said, echoing the investor. “Team building will be done in consultation with Lobera,” he added.
Lobera has coached Indian clubs FC Goa and Mumbai City.
East Bengal are now preparing for the Super Cup which is being played in Kerala.
East Bengal are under immense pressure from the fans to build a good team after arch-rivals ATK Mohun Bagan won the ISL beating Bengaluru FC last month.
